Cathy Druckenbrod, a resident of Charlotte, NC, died Saturday, July 28, 2012 at home
surrounded by her loving family. Cathy was born on May 29, 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio.
She was the daughter of James and Rita Bourke. She grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio and
graduated from Sacred Heart College in Belmont, NC in 1968. She married her high school
sweetheart, the love of her life, Tom in 1971. Cathy’s greatest joy was her family. She was a
woman of faith and an active member of her church, St. Gabriel, where she served as a
Preschool Teacher and a Eucharistic Minister to the Sick. Above all else she cherished her
role as a wife and mother to her precious children, TJ and Kevin, their wives, Lisa and Molly
and grandchildren, Katie and Ellie. Cathy was an avid exerciser and annually participated in
the Cupid’s Cup benefit walk associated with the CMC Cardiac Rehab center. Cathy faced
numerous challenges with dignity and grace up to and including her final journey with cancer.
She had an internal strength that inspired all of those who came in contact with her. Cathy’s
faith, courage, and determination will continue to be a shining example to all those who knew
and loved her. Not only will she be remembered for her beautiful smile and sparkly blue eyes,
but her greatest legacy will be the abundant life she lived with the knowledge that “every day
is a gift”.
Cathy is survived by her devoted and loving family, husband of 40 years, Tom;
Children, TJ, and Kevin; cherished daughter-in-laws, Lisa and Molly; beloved grandchildren,
Katie and Ellie; brother, Rory, sisters, Shannon and Mary; and many nieces, nephews,
neighbors and friends.
