Obituary for Donald "Don" E. Dowdle

Don woke up in the Land of Glory on Monday morning, February 19th, at 6:17 AM. The Heavenly Gates opened wide to welcome him.
Don was born on November 11th, 1936, in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from Murphy High School and Georgia Tech.
He started working at First Union Bank in Charlotte on April 14th, 1970. He retired from the bank as a senior systems analyst/developer in 1999.
Don was quite the athlete, playing most all sports, except maybe curling. He taught many to water ski on Lakes Wylie and Norman. He snow skiied, played tennis, volleyball, softball, racquetball, and ran in many races even a marathon. He really loved golf, getting a hole in one after rotator cuff surgery.
Don was very creative, was an artist with many beautiful paintings and he made lamps out of stumps found in Lake Norman. He was also a good writer and teacher.
Don loved Resurrection Church and was very involved. He led a small group for the deaf and was active in another. He loved teaching about the Bible, history and prophecy. He loved the Lord and was such a Godly example to so many of all ages.
He and Linda were married for 43 and 1/2 years, having met on a Charlotte SkiBees bus trip to Sugar Mountain. They enjoyed doing so many activities together; church, sports, travel and spending time with family and friends. Their most adventurous trip was to see baby Harp seals on ice floes in Canada. Their last few months together were challenging due to Don’s health problems. Even in the hospital and rehab, people commented about their love and commitment to each other and that it was such a Godly marriage, an example to all. Don always thanked Linda for taking such good care of him.
Oh, how he will be missed!
Don is survived by his wife, Linda, daughter, Deedie Dowdle (Dow Scoggins), son Todd Dowdle, sisters, Frecia Johnson and Terry Traylor (Mike), grandsons, Dustin, Casey and Cam Scoggins, Uncle Walter Johnson (Sybil), cousins Lee Ann Miller(Jay), Rick Johnson (Deborah), and precious cousins, nieces, Godchildren, and animals who loved him, especially his little dog Scamp.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Resurrection Church Agape Fund, Resurrection Church Dance Ministries or Shining Hope Farms.
A memorial service for Don will be held at Resurrection Church, 2940 Commonwealth Avenue, Charlotte, NC on March 10th at 11:00 AM. There will be time to informally visit with Linda shortly before and shortly after the service.
