Obituary for Mary Annis Makres

Mary Makres, 94, died Friday, June 2, 2017 at Huntersville Oaks.
She was born July 20, 1922 in London, Ontario, Canada, daughter of George and Vasilo Smernio Annis.
A loving wife and grandmother to all, was known as Yia Yia and The Baklava Lady to her family and friends.
Mary spent many years in her family restaurant "Annis Restaurant" in Tilbury Ontario, Canada before she was married.She was a past member of the Alpha Theta Chapter of ESA in Charlotte, taking part in all their activities to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She also volunteered for the Red Cross. She was a member of the Ladies of Philoptochos Society at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on East Boulevard.
Mrs. Makres was preceded in death by her brothers, Spero Annis, Alex Annis, and Leo Annis and nephew, John Annis.
She is survived by her daughter, Anthe Tyndell (Paul); son, Nick Makres (Sarah); grandsons, Chris Tyndell, of Cornelius, Drew Tyndell (Rhiannon), of Portland, OR, Hunter Makres, of Huntersville, and Eric Land, Joel Land, Raleigh, Matt Land, Waxhaw, and Chris Land (Sarah), of Charlotte; and niece Yvonne Romano, of Canada.
A funeral celebration service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral with Father Robert Lawrence, officiating. Interment will be in Sharon Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church, 134-A Talbert Pointe Drive, Mooresville, NC 28117 or St. Jude Children's Hospital, ESA Headquarters, 363 W. Drake Road, Fort Collins, CO 80526
