Obituary for William Joseph Vanderlip

William Joseph Vanderlip 89, husband of Dorothy Ann Martin Vanderlip passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2018.
Born in Charlotte, NC on August 11, 1928 as the only child of Henry and Hester Sloan Vanderlip, he graduated from Central High School in 1946 and North Carolina State University in 1950 with a degree in Civil Engineering. In 1948 he married his childhood sweet-heart Dorothy Ann Martin. They were married 69 years. They were tightly knit together and were members of Trinity Presbyterian Church.
Joe was the father of 5 children and worked for RH Wheatly Construction Co. and RH Pinnix Construction Co and later started his own Engineering firm where he worked for 25 years. He loved tennis and baseball and coached little league for 3 years.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy and their sons and their wives Joe and Cyndi Vanderlip, Steve and Carol Vanderlip, David and Emiko Vanderlip and his daughters and their husbands Laura and Peter Whitehouse and Kathy and Charlie Smith. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren, their families and 2 great granddaughters.
A memorial service will be held Monday, January 15th at 1:30, at Plantation Estates, 733 Plantation Estates Dr. Matthews, 28105. The family will receive guests following the service. He will be interred at Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St Jude Childrens Hospital.
