Mr. Ashley, 77, of Charlotte, NC, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Carolinas Medical Center Main. He was born May 4, 1932 in Mecklenburg County, NC, son of the late James A. and Kate McLean Ashley.
Mr. Ashley was a technician with A. F. Dancy Co. for over 30 years. He was a U. S. Army veteran having served in Europe at the conclusion of World War II and a member of Newell Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Irene, two sons, Greg D. Ashley and wife, Kim of Mooresville, and Bryan Scott Ashley of Charlotte; two granddaughters, Layla Ashley Maxwell (Ben) of Gastonia and Kathleen Ashley Shenise (Rob) of Ft. Mill, SC; grandson, Sam Gaddis of Kannapolis, five great-grandchildren, Logan, Alyssa, Joel, Taylor, and Silas. Mr. Ashley loved his family very much.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM Thursday, January 14, at Newell Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Chris Hilliard will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
