Steven James Boon, 42 of Charlotte, died Thursday, May 28, 2009 at his home after a lengthy battle with bladder cancer. He was born May 23, 1967 in Grand Haven, MI. He earned his Bachelor of Science and his Master of Education from Grand Valley State University in Michigan. He was the beloved teacher of St. Gabriel Catholic School in Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Luann Johnston.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Kelly Ann Arnold Boon, his daughter, Madeline Mary Boon, his son, Logan Christopher Boon, his parents, Arie and Joann Boon of Grand Haven, MI; mother in law, Bernadette Hofer-Arnold, Norton Shores, MI; brother, David Boon and wife Yvonne and their children, Cecilia, Arie, Anthony, and Alida of Grand Haven, MI; sister, Linda Brown and husband William and their children, Ellen and Jerod of Grand Haven, MI; brother in law, Bruce Johnson of Arizona and his daughter, Heather of Oregeon; his in laws include Kevin Arnold and his son, Wyatt of San Francisco; Drs. Denis and Sara Arnold and their daughter Skye of Concord, NC; sister in law, Traci Voss and husband David and their children, Matthew, Luke, Kate, Elizabeth of Louisville, KY; sister in law, Megan Ruszkowski and husband, Chris and their children, Maxwell, Jacob, Sebastian of Commerce City, Colorado; sister in law, Shannon Ranaletta and her husband, Chip and their children, Trey and Andrew Steven of Huntersville, NC and brother in law, Brian Arnold and his wife, Angela and their children, Rory, Asher, Julia of Akron, Ohio; many aunts, uncles and cousins and his extended family at St. Gabriel.
The family will receive friends at St. Gabriel Catholic Church on Monday, June 1, beginning at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 5:00 PM Tuesday, June 2, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church with The Most Reverend William G. Curlin, Bishop Emeritus of The Diocese of Charlotte, Celebrant and The Reverend Francis J. O’Rourke, The Reverend Luis Osorio, The Reverend Edward J. Sheridan, The Reverend Monsignor Richard Bellow and The Reverend Robert Conway, Concelebrants.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Gabriel Church/Steven Boon Memorial Fund, to be used for the helping hands fund at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC, 28211
