Mr. Bower, 71, of Indian Trail, N.C., died peacefully Sunday, December 20, 2009 surrounded by his family.
Born July 24, 1938 in Genesee, PA, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Mary Bower. Jack was a 1969 graduate of West Virginia State University and had a successful career with Union Carbide Corporation, retiring in 1986 as an Account Executive. Mr. Bower then started his own management consulting firm, JLB, Inc., working for a chemical distributor. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and enjoyed working with others building houses. Mr. Bower was a member of SouthPark Christian Church, where he worked tirelessly volunteering his service to his church. He was past Board Chairman and served on several committees. He was most proud of his accomplishments in designing and building the columbarium at SouthPark Christian Church, along with other projects.
Mr. Bower is survived by his wife of 52 years, Loretta Grady Bower; three children, John Bower and his wife, Diana, Kim Carpenter and her husband, Mark, and David Bower and his wife, Melanie; and 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Matthew, Sarah, Jacob, and Ethan Bower, Justin Carpenter and his wife, Sami, Jared, Jennings, and Jamison Carpenter, and Caitlin Bower. He is also survived by his brother, Chauncey Bower and his wife, Florence; his mother in law, Glenna Grady Stickley; one nephew and three nieces.
Along with his parents, he was pre-deceased by three sisters, Fern Lee Blackhurst, Jean Thaxton, and Roann Bower. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at SouthPark Christian Church, 6650 Park South Drive, Charlotte. The family will greet friends following the memorial service.
