Obituaries

Mrs. Crosby, 65, of Charlotte, NC passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at home surrounded by her family.  She was born July 16, 1944 in Charlotte, NC to the late Russell Dwight McLaughlin and Jewel Coble McLaughlin.

Sandy grew up in the Newell Community and was a lifelong member of Back Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Charlotte where she enjoyed singing in the choir and led the Children’s Choir for many years.  She was a realtor for close to 30 years and retired from Allen Tate Realtors in 2009.  She served on the Board of Realtors, Advisory Board for the Charlotte Fire Department Credit Union and the Board of Directors for Hickory Place, a home for the disabled.  She enjoyed her grandchildren, who knew her as “Granny”, her family, meeting new people, singing, and her house at Holden Beach, lovingly named the Sandy “C”. 

Sandy is survived by her husband of 43 years, Jim Crosby; children Devrin Avant and wife, Heather and Tripp Crosby and wife, Lesley; siblings, Jewel (Sissy) Owens, Denise Ball, Ben McLaughlin and Joy McLaughlin; stepmother, Pat McLaughlin; aunts, Frances McLaughlin, Lou McLaughlin and Patsy Nance; grandchildren, Martha Avant, Meredith Avant, Morgan Crosby, Matthew Crosby, Evan Guest and Griffin Guest; and many nieces and nephews.   

Sandy will be fondly remembered by all who knew her for her outgoing and spunky personality.  She was a giver of herself, took care of those in need, and was a dedicated friend to many.   

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 10 from 6-8pm at Back Creek ARP Church in Charlotte.  The funeral will be held on Thursday, February 11 at 11:00 am at Back Creek ARP Church in Charlotte with the Rev. Wayne Frazier and Rev. Eddie Spencer officiating.  Pallbearers are Art Cochran, Alan Cochrane, Keith Duncan, Ronnie Green, Jamie Harris, Robbie Harris, Mark McLaughlin, Damie Owens, and Mark Smith.
