|
JULY 18, 1927~~MAY 11, 2010 |
|
Walter Wallace Getz, 82, of Waxhaw, NC, died May 11, 2010. Born July 18, 1927, Wally, as he was known to his friends, was the only child of Walter K. and Olga Getz of Bronxville, NY. A football scholarship brought, the “Big Swede” to Indiana University where he became a Sigma Chi brother. Drafted into the US Army, he served two years in Japan before returning to complete his business degree and meet his future wife. Wally enjoyed a long and prosperous career with General Electric where he helped build the audio electronics business into a significant venture. A dedicated family man, he remained active in sports, teaching his children and coaching them in their athletic endeavors. As a traveling salesman, he gave up his life-long love of golf to spend time with his family. His honesty, integrity and sense of humor won him many friends both socially and in business. His legacy of a full, successful, happy life has touched the hearts of family and friends….He will be missed. Wally will join his parents at their grave site in Valhalla, New York, although his heart and soul will always remain in the South.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jean Hollister Getz, Children; John, Jeff, Ken and Kristin Buyckx. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Carrie, Chandler, Matthew, Christopher, Trevor, Michael and Samantha.
Arrangements are made by J.B. Tallent Funeral Service, 1937 Sharon Amity Road. Friends are invited there to a celebration of Wally’s life from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday, May 22, 2010.
Wally would appreciate a memorial made to Compassion & Choices, P.O. Box 101810, Denver, CO 80250-1810 or Humane Society of Union County, P.O. Box 101, Monroe, NC 28110.
