Mr. Hackney, 91, of Charlotte, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Presbyterian Hospital- Matthews, with his family by his side. He was born on October 11, 1918, in Yancy County, NC, son of the late William Judson and Nora Olivia Durham Hackney. Mr. Hackney was associated with the Lance Corporation for 33 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a 32nd Degree Mason having been a member of Temple Lodge #676 A.F. & A. M. for 50 years, and the Oasis Temple of the Shrine. Mr. Hackney was a charter member of Providence United Methodist Church and a founding member of the Wesley Men’s Fellowship Class. He is survived by his loving wife Robbie Collins Hackney; having just celebrated 64 years of marriage. In addition, he is survived by sons; Bob (Teresa) of Charlotte, and Mike (Gerry), of Las Vegas, NV; daughter Linda Wilson (John) of Charlotte; grandchildren, Robert Hackney, Taylor Hackney (Megan) and Amanda Wilson; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Trent Hackney; brother, David Hackney and sister Ruth Drum both of Charlotte.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Providence United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in the church atrium following the service.
