Virginia Freeman Hood, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 16, 2010 at Huntersville Oaks.

Virginia was the youngest child of William Reid Freeman and Bertha Mae Beattie and was pre-deceased by her brothers, Frank, Mack, John, and an infant brother, as well as her sisters, Jeanne Dubose and Mildred Frye.

Virginia graduated from Central High School and began work with a local contractor. She later worked at a savings and loan bank. She and her husband, Edward, were married on February 22, 1941, at the then St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. The ceremony was performed by the groom’s father, Rev. S.J. Hood, pastor of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Mint Hill. They set up residence in Baltimore where her husband was employed and spent thirty-five years at various locations, before returning to Charlotte in retirement.

As a young person, she was active in church and Scout work in Baltimore, Columbia, and Atlanta; however, in later years she was more homebound. Virginia was married for 69 years and is survived by two sons, Michael, of Davidson, N.C. and David and wife, Kathleen, of Tallahassee, FL.; and by four grandchildren.

 A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 20, 2010 in the Chapel of J.B. Tallent Funeral Service, 1937 Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte. Interment will be private.
