 RUBYE  EUGENIA  ROGERS  HULL

MAY 15, 1916 ~ MARCH 30, 2010

Rubye of Charlotte passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Sharon Towers Retirement Community.  She lived for the past 10 years at this supportive community with her beloved husband of 70 years, Dr. P. C. Hull, Jr.  Rubye was born on May 15, 1916, in Cochran, Georgia to Verna Nesmith and Charles Rogers.  After the early death of her mother, she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Emma Elizabeth Rogers Holland and Herman Holland.  She attended Middle Georgia College and then went to work in Atlanta, where she met P. C.   They were married on June 2, 1940, and their strong friendship and obvious love for each other created a wonderful lasting marriage.

Rubye took great joy in spending time with her friends and family and enjoyed cooking and entertaining.  She loved Litchfield Beach, especially fixing up their condo, walking on the beach collecting shells, reading a good book and spending time with her children and grandchildren.   Her green thumb and knack for decorating made her home a true oasis.  She loved planting her annual vegetable and flower garden and was co-founder of the Flower Trail Garden Club in Charlotte.

One of Rubye’s favorite sayings was “pretty is as pretty does”, and she truly was a beautiful and kind person.  Her inner beauty was her kind heart, her giving nature, and she was devoted to P. C.  and her family.  She was a wonderful mother who was always there for her children.

She was an active member along with P. C. of Myers Park United Methodist Church, and she will be interred in the columbarium at the church.

She is survived by her husband and their two children, Peggy Anne Hull Clemens of Durham, and Dr. James Carter Hull and wife Ginny of Charlotte.  She is survived by six grandchildren, Katherine Eugenia Clemens Ray and husband, Billy of Durham, Carter Alexander Hull and wife Kristin of Charlotte, Dr. James Turner Hull of Charlotte, Sarah Elizabeth Clemens Galer and husband Sean of Fort Myers, FL; Jessica Lee Hull and Jordan Christian Hull of Charlotte, and four great-grandchildren, Davis Carter and Aubrey Grace Hull of Charlotte and Sarah Elizabeth and William Carl Ray IV of Durham.

A memorial service to celebrate Rubye’s life will be held on Friday, April 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Myers Park United Methodist Church with The Reverend Bill Roth, officiating.

The family will receive friends in Jubilee Hall at the church following the service.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Sharon Towers for their care and friendship and to Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Resident’s Assistance Fund at Sharon Towers, 5100 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC 28210 or to Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
