|
|
June 17, 1924 ~ March 1, 2010 |
|
Mr. Johnson unexpectedly ran through the gates of Heaven on March 1, 2010.
Bill was born June 17th, 1924 in Toccoa, Ga. He moved to Asheville, N.C. at the age of 2 and grew up there; graduating from Lee Edwards High School.
In World War II, he served in the Marine Corps, 4th Division, in the South Pacific. He received the Navy Cross and Bronze Star for heroic actions on Iwo Jima!
He met his wife, Edna, in Asheville, and they married on Feb.9th, 1946.They was very happily married for 64 years. They had one child, Linda.
In 1957, they moved to Charlotte and he became Vice President of Twin States Truck Equipment Company.
He was very athletic and enjoyed many sports: golf, softball, tennis, volleyball, and especially running! He played softball on his church team until he was 80 years old. He and daughter Linda, and son in law, Don completed The Charlotte Observer Marathon together.
He and his twin brother, Walter, were like two peas in a pod. They were so very close, looking, thinking, and acting alike. They were very active in The Plaza Players. They also did many comedy routines to the delight of their audiences.
Bill brightened so many lives with his smile and sense of humor. He loved God, and was used to touch and influence so many people of all ages.
He was very active at his church, Resurrection Church, serving as greeter and usher. He was known for his smile and hugs!
He loved his wife, Edna, so much; they were quite a team. He and daughter Linda were as close as a Dad and daughter could be. He and Don, Linda's husband, were like brothers; loved doing things together.
His love of God and family was seen by all. He will be greatly missed!
Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edna, his daughter Linda [Don] Dowdle, his identical twin, Walter[Sybil] Johnson, nephew Rick[Deborah] Johnson, niece, Lee Ann [Jay] Miller, and great nieces, nephews, and step grandchildren.
