|
December 17, 1929 - June 30, 2010 |
|
Mr. Kilpatrick, 80, of Charlotte, was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. He was born December 17, 1929, in Andalusia, AL, son of the late John and Nena Kilpatrick. Mr. Kilpatrick attended art school in New York City, in 1950 until the Korean War began, at which time he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He spent the last two and one half years of his military service at Cape Canaveral, FL, where he was a senior guidance systems mechanic on the guided missile program. In 1956, he returned to New York City to complete his studies in commercial art, and worked for several advertising art studios in New York before moving to North Carolina in 1964. He spent the balance of his professional career as a self-employed commercial artist in Charlotte. His passion was his love of God, also expressed by his participation in the revival of old style shaped-note southern gospel singing. He often attended state gospel conventions in TN, AL, and Florida, as well as the National Gospel singing convention. He is survived by his son David Alan Kilpatrick, and grandsons, David Harrison Kilpatrick, and Taylor Alan Kilpatrick, all of Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his beloved brothers, Dalton and Burl, and his sister Murl. A service to celebrate his life will be held 4:00pm Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Mount Harmony Baptist Church in Matthews. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mount Harmony Baptist Church, 2817 Mount Harmony Church Rd., Matthews, NC 28105. |
