Obituaries

     Mary MacDermid McKaig, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the Stewart Health Center at The Cypress of Charlotte surrounded by her family on January 9, 2010.  Mary was born June 16, 1918, in Toledo, Ohio, to Dan and Eunice MacDermid.  She attended Ohio State University, earned a teaching degree and was employed as a teacher and coach.  She was married to the late Albert S. McKaig, Jr. for 49 years.  She enjoyed volunteering in school, scouting, church and political activities.  She was a longtime member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church.  Facing an empty nest, she acquired her Realtor’s license and was active in real estate for many years.  Mary enjoyed bridge, tennis, golf, Scrabble, croquet, water aerobics, and being a special friend to many.

       Her commitment to and love of family were foremost in her life.  She is survived by her daughter, Sally McKaig Seawright and her husband, Steve, of Bethesda, MD; her son, A. Stuart McKaig III and his wife, Roberta, of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Karen MacDermid McKaig and Heather McKaig Sofianos of Charlotte, Stacy Seawright Dobbs of San Antonio, TX and Lindsay Seawright Peral of Winston-Salem, NC; and seven great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister, Sally MacDermid Petticrew of Indianapolis, IN, and numerous nieces and nephews.

       The family would like to express its deep gratitude to the nursing, dining, and administrative staffs at the Stewart Health Center for the extraordinary loving care they provided for Mary.  A reception to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at The Cypress of Charlotte Clubhouse, 3442 Cypress Club Drive, Charlotte, NC 28210.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 E.  7^th St.,
