Mr. O'Brien, 85 of Charlotte, formerly of Hendersonville, NC died peacefully Monday afternoon, April 5, 2010.
Mr. O'Brien was born September 30, 1924 to the late Thomas and Mary Benedict O'Brien He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Kay Russell O'Brien, sisters, Kathryn O'Brien and Helen McMahon, brother, Tom O'Brien, and nephew, David O'Brien.
He is survived by his son, William Shawn O'Brien, daughter, Molly O'Brien McDeson, (Sean), grandchildren, Morgan Kay McDeson and Ian Michael McDeson, sisters, Margaret Kostyshak (Alex), Teresa Koblenzer, his beloved nieces, Patricia McMahon and Beverly Green, many other nieces and nephews.
Mr. O'Brien is a veteran of WWII, where he did tours and lived in France, Germany and Italy. Upon his return from the war he enrolled in Kent State University where he graduated in three years. He worked for Phillip Carey, Celotex, and W.R. Grace in the construction products division. He was a devout Catholic, active in his church and in the Knights of Columbus. He loved his family very much and liked nothing more than to be with them. He had the greatest of personalities and loved to be around people. He loved Notre Dame Football and golfing.
The family wishes to thank those at The Universal Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care of their father.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00am Saturday April 10, 2010 in the Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Chapel of St. Gabriel Catholic Church.
