Don, 62 of Charlotte, NC , passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 22, 2010. He was born on September 24, 1947 son of the late Brown Lee and Winnifred T. Porter.
Don will always be remembered for his radiant smile and his charismatic personality. He served in the Air Force for four years after completing high school and later joined the Charlotte Police Department. In 1974 he moved to Sunset Beach and owned the Italian Fisherman and later moved back to Charlotte.
Don is survived by his two sisters, Theresa P. Hall and Karan Dewar and husband, Wayne; special friend, Sue Miller, one son, Donald Lee Porter, Jr., and wife Kelly, two daughters, Jennifer McAllister and husband, Jason; Taylor Reid and husband Brian and seven grandchildren.
A service from the graveside will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 25, 2010 at Sharon Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Aldersgate, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
His remains will lie in state on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at J. B. Tallent Funeral Service, 1937 N. Sharon Amity Road between the hours of 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
