HUGO ROSENBERGER

September 24, 1913 ~ May 8, 2009

Hugo Rosenberger passed away on Friday, May 8, 2009.  He was born on September 24, 1913, in Rulzheim, Germany.  Hugo was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Helga, who passed away just 9 days before him.  He is survived by his daughter Lynn Edelstein and her husband Paul and by his 4 grandchildren, Mark Lerner and his wife, Alison, Gary Lerner and his wife, Donna, Eric and Aly Lerner, and Julie Levine and her husband, Howard.  Pop-pop was also adored by his 8 great-grandchildren, Sammy, Scott, Sean, Emily, Sari, Carly, Evan and Sophie.

A gentle soul with a big heart, Hugo was kind and generous to all he came in contact with.  During his lifetime, he was very committed to his Synagogue, Temple Israel.  He was President of Temple Israel and was also a Regional Vice President of United Synagogue, the governing body of the Conservative movement.  He was a member of the Jewish Community Center, and a Chairman of Israel Bonds.  Hugo enjoyed playing golf and bridge, and grew orchids in his greenhouse. He was a member of the Orchid Society and he and Helga displayed their orchids at the Southern Living show.   Most of all he cherished every moment he spent with his wife and family.

The family would like to thank Dr. Marvin Shapiro and the staff of Charlotte Medical Clinic for their care and compassion.  They would also like to thank his special caregivers, Miriam Veloz, Lynda Hinson, and Carolyn Hough for their love and concern.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 10 at Temple Israel at 3:00 pm.  Shiva Minyan will be held at the home of Lynn and Paul Edelstein on Sunday evening at 7:00 pm, and Monday and Tuesday at 7:45 pm.  Donations in Hugo’s memory may be made to the Sam Lerner Scholarship Fund at the Charlotte Jewish Day School or to Jewish Family Services.
