THE REVEREND DR. RAYMOND D. SCOTT |
|
|
MARCH 3, 1937 ~ ~ FEBRUARY 19, 2010 |
|
The Reverend Dr. Raymond D. Scott died peacefully in Charlotte, NC on Friday, February 19, 2010 from heart failure due to a congenital heart defect. He was 72.
Ray Scott’s 41-year career as a Presbyterian minister started in Baton Rouge, LA, followed by church homes in New York City, NY, Detroit, MI, Stamford, CT, Cincinnati, OH, and finally in Charlotte, NC, where he spent 14 years as Minister of Pastoral Care at Myers Park Presbyterian Church. Dr. Scott made his transition at Presbyterian Hospital, surrounded by his loving wife, son, daughter, brother, and sister-in-law.
Born March 3, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA, Dr. Scott went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in History at The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio. He continued his education at Princeton Seminary in Princeton, NJ, and earned his Doctorate of Ministry degree from McCormick Seminary in Chicago, IL.
Dr. Scott served beyond the local church too, providing leadership in the Presbytery in New England, Cincinnati, and Charlotte. He led senior adult programs and started the Stephen Ministry program at Myers Park Presbyterian Church.
Ray had a twinkle in his eye, a ready smile, and open arms for anyone who needed them throughout his lifetime. He spread abundant joy and peace along the way, and loved the simple pleasures of life, such as quality time with family, singing, reading, and sunsets. Dr. Scott was a warm and loving man, and was a 10-out-of-10 husband and dad.
Dr. Scott is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Barbara, a music director, his twins-Todd, an opthalmologist, and daughter, Jennifer, a business director at Bank of America-and granddaughter, Claire (7), all of Charlotte, and his brother, Alex Scott, of Sarasota, FL.
The memorial service for Ray will be on Tuesday, February 23 at 4:00 P.M. in the Myers Park Presbyterian Church sanctuary, Charlotte, NC. For those who share Ray’s love of music, please enjoy a musical remembrance there, beginning at 3:30 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church in his memory, or to the American Heart Association.
