GERALD PRESTON SINKOE  

SEPTEMBER 11, 1933 ~ ~ AUGUST 16, 2009

 

 

Mr. Sinkoe of Charlotte, peacefully left our world on August 16, 2009 while home, surrounded by the family he so loved and who loved him so.

A native Charlottean, G.P. was born to Hattye Smith Sinkoe and Ezzie I. Sinkoe on September 11, 1933.  From an early age G. P. understood the value of faith, family, dedication and hard work.  These values have been instilled upon his children and their children as well.    G. P. provided us all with everything we needed and most of what we wanted.
 

G. P. attended both Belmont Abbey High School and College where he finished in 1953.


On October 10, 1954 Gerald married Fay Gottlieb whom remained his gentle loving wife for over 55 years.


In 1959, G. P. founded Famous Mart which became the pioneer brand name discount business in the South.

G. P. was a Haddassah Associate, a 32nd Degree Mason for over 50 years and a
 
member of Temple Israel since birth.

In addition to Fay, G. P. leaves behind, four children, Randy Sinkoe (Marci); Brenda Moore (Eric); Beverly Grey (Michael) and Louis Sinkoe (Kevin Levine); four grandchildren, Lynnsey Sinkoe, Drew Grey, Jessica Grey, Evabette Moore as well as his sister, Marilyn Farwell of Ft. Lauderdale; his brother, Morris Ben Sinkoe (Selene) of Black Mountain, NC; a sister in law, Cissy Gottlieb, nieces and nephew, Mark Farwell. He is also survived by a host of cousins, friends and employees both past and present.

The family wishes to thank all those care providers who have become family over the years and Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region for making this transition an act of dignity and respect.

Gerald was a man of few words, who shall be remembered as a good man by all who knew him.


A funeral service will be held at Temple Israel at 11:30 AM Tuesday, August 18, 2009.  Interment will follow at The Hebrew Cemetery.

Evening Minyan will be 7:30 PM Tuesday, at Temple Israel.


The family asks that all memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Regions, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
