NOVEMBER 4, 1938 ~ SEPTEMBER 9, 2009 |
|
Mr. Stone of Charlotte, NC, died at home on September 9, 2009. He was born in Greenville, SC on November 4, 1938, to the late Fletcher and Dora Harling Stone. He attended Greenville High School and earned his B. S. degree in Biology in 1961 from Furman University. He served two years with the U. S. Army at Fort Dietrick, Frederick, MD. Mr. Stone was associated with Hoechst/Celanese for many years, retiring in 1996. He later founded FS Stone Application Technology, Inc.
Mr. Stone’s children and grandchildren, who affectionally called him “Pop,” brought him great joy each time they visited him and went on summer vacations with him. He loved his church, Quail Hollow Presbyterian, where he served as Deacon, Elder, Sunday school teacher, mentor, and head usher. As head usher for many years, he enjoyed meeting and greeting every person that came to Quail Hollow each Sunday. Mr. Stone was a blessing to those around him, a blessing to all who knew his gentle manner, his warm friendship, his good humor, and his deep, abiding faith.
He is survived by loving wife of 44 years Elizabeth McCraw Stone, son, Fletcher Stone, III and his wife, Katie of Apex, NC, and daughter Susannah Stone Gill and her husband, Kevin Gill of Charlotte, grandchildren, Max Gill, Rebekah Gill, Fletcher Stone IV, and Taylor Stone, sister, Barbara Stone Block of Greenville, SC, and brother, John Stone of Toccoa, GA.
A memorial service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Quail Hollow Presbyterian Church, 8801 Park Road, Charlotte. The family will greet friends at the church following the service.
