John Kenneth "Ken" Wherry, 74 of Charlotte, passed away on July 11, 2010 after a courageous two year battle with cancer. He was born May 3,1936 in Charlotte, son of the late Geneva Yarborough and John William Wherry.
Mr. Wherry graduated in 1954, from West Mecklenburg High School. He served 8 years in the Air National Guard. Since 1964, he has been the proud owner of Ken Wherry's Deluxe Auto Center, Inc. In 1971, he was honored as Small Business Man of Charlotte by the late Mayor John Belk. He was a member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, a 50 year member of St. Andrews' Lodge #702, A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Bodies and Oasis Temple of the Shrine.
Mr. Wherry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Louise Thomas Wherry and his daughter, Kimberly, along with his son, Mark and his wife, Gail, and two grandsons, David and Chad. He is also survived by his brother Don, his wife, Janice and their family. In addition, he is survived by his Aunt, Annie Beattie of Kings Mountain, North Carolina and several cousins.
