Mr. Robert Edwin Wylie, 81, of Charlotte, died May 30, 2010 at Hospice of Union County.
He was born March 24, 1929 in Morganton, N.C., a son of the late D. Otis Wylie and Margaret Pendergrass Wylie. A longtime resident of Charlotte, Bob was a graduate of Central High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, keeping in contact with those he served with in combat and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was known for the many life-long friendships that he maintained, his devotion to his family, and his avid support of the UNC Tar Heels.
A service in celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 2, 2010 from the graveside at Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday at J.B. Tallent Funeral Service, 1937 Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Anne Holder Wylie; three children, Mary Ellen Pierce, of Salisbury, N.C., Becky Wylie, of Rock Hill, S.C., and Danny Wylie, of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Jay Wampler and wife, Rachel and Leslie Anne Pierce; mother in law, Grace McNeil, of Matthews; and a brother, Charles Wylie and wife, Jo, of Mint Hill, N.C.; nephews, Walter Wylie, of Charlotte, Bill Wylie and wife, Judy, of Charlotte, Robert Wylie and wife, Beth, of Davidson, N.C.; niece, Cindy Tilson, of Charlotte; and five great nieces and nephews.
