Obituary for Annie Mae Morgan Bowling

Annie Mae Morgan Bowling, 94, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully on August 8, 2018 at the Atrium Pineville Hospital in Charlotte, NC. She was born in Chatham County, NC, on December 1, 1923, daughter of the late Austin Jefferson Morgan and Annie Catherine Bryan Morgan. She graduated from Durham High School in 1941 and received her RN professional nursing degree from the Bowman Gray Medical Center School of Nursing in Winston Salem. She married Thomas Benson Bowling Sr of Durham on April 7, 1944. After 64 years of marriage, Mr. Bowling passed away in 2008. In 2009 Annie moved to from Durham to Charlotte.
In addition to her nursing career she was also a Red Cross instructor for many years. In 1984, after 20 years of service, she retired as associate director of clinical nursing for the UNC Student Health Services in Chapel Hill. She was awarded the title of "Honorary Lt Governor of North Carolina” for her outstanding service to the University.
Annie had been a member of Epworth Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher, and actively participated in many service and political organizations in Durham. She was an accomplished artist in oils and water colors. In 2002 she published her first historical novel, Call Him Genatus. At the age of 93 she completed an unpublished second novel.
She is preceded in death by her two sisters, Lula Gray Morgan Alderman and Azzie Lee Morgan Thurnher. She is survived by her two sons, Thomas B. Bowling Jr and wife Nancy of Charlotte NC, and Stephen B. Bowling and wife Judith of Harvard, MA.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, David B. Bowling, Marianne B. Bowman, Dana N. DiPeri, and James L. Bowling, and by three great grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by J B Tallent Funeral Service of Charlotte with a private burial at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham, NC on August 17, 2018.
