Obituary for Patsy Elaine Havlick (Fleming)

God called Mrs. Patsy Elaine Havlick (née Fleming) home to be with the Lord on December 18, 2017 in Charlotte, NC at the age of 72 after a long battle with liver disease and breast cancer. She was surrounded by her family in the Harris Hospice Unit at Novant Presbyterian Hospital.
Patsy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles A. Havlick, of Charlotte, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents John Edward Fleming and Mary Jordan Short Fleming of Kittrell, NC.
Patsy is also survived by her three children and spouses, Vincent F. Havlick and Lisa Moore of Fredricksburg, VA, Joan and Geoff Roberts of Charlotte, NC, and Joyce and Paul Schumann of Waxhaw, NC; eleven grandchildren, Krista Lawton, Preston Schumann, Phylicia Vanvorce, Tiffany Lackey, Stephanie Richardson, Samantha Roberts, Ashley Lawson, Brittany Havlick, Zachary Roberts, Justin Estep, and Sarah Havlick; eight great-grandchildren: Ayden Havlick, Aubree Havlick, Bayne Vanvorce, Ivy Vanvorce, Austin John "AJ" Lawson, Landon Lawson Chase May and Florence Lackey; five brothers and spouses, Garland and Connie Fleming of Newark, OH, Donald and Linda Fleming of Maxton, NC, Charles and Sandy Fleming of Henderson, NC, Danny and Shelia Fleming of Kittrell, NC, John and Sheila Fleming of Paxico, KS.
Patsy was born on April 27th in Kittrell, NC to John and Mary Fleming. She graduated from Zeb Vance High School in 1960 and she loved her Rebel classmates. Patsy worked as a ‘Candy Striper’ at Maria Parham Hospital, studying to become a nurse. She married Charles A. Havlick (Chuck) on October 5, 1964. Legend has it that Patsy pointed Chuck out at a dance and said, “I am going to marry that little devil.”
Patsy was a leader in the Girls Scouts. She was active in her church, even becoming the president of her local chapter of Protestant Women of the Chapel. As a military wife, Patsy had the opportunity to travel around the world, specifically travelling to Germany, Georgia, and Hawaii and she made friends everywhere she went. Patsy was always one to give and care for others.
Patsy was not an avid writer, but she definitely had the gift of the gab. Chuck used to say that she should have owned stock in BellSouth because she was constantly on the telephone. She was a prayer warrior for so many. She always said, “this is just another opportunity”. Patsy’s faith was tireless and unwavering. She reminded others that God would take care of all situations. She was so loving and ended every phone call or in person encounter with “I love you.”
Patsy would have said that she was most proud of being a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and servant of the Lord. As a devoted wife, she loved and supported Chuck in all things. As a loving mother, she encouraged her kids to participate in all kinds of activities (cheering, ballet, swimming, horseback riding, pilot lessons, etc.) and encouraged her children to work hard and make good choices. As an adoring grandma, (aka Baby Doll), she absolutely loved spending time loving on all of her grand- and great grand-children. As a loyal friend, Patsy was always available to talk and inspire. As a faithful servant of the Lord, Patsy spent her life leading others to Christ.
A visitation will be held Friday, December 22, 2017 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at JB Tallent Funeral Service, 1937 N Sharon Amity Rd., Charlotte, NC 28205. A celebration of Patsy’s life will take place Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 11:00 AM at East Baptist Church, 6850 Monroe Rd., Charlotte, NC 28212. Friends and family are asked to join the family for a reception at the Havlick family home following the service, 6400 Old Post Rd., Charlotte, NC 28212. Patsy will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Jude Children’s Cancer Research or to Patsy’s church home East Baptist Church. Condolences may be sent to 6400 Old Post Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.
